The survey reveals that as of March 2025, Canadian homebuyers prioritize outdoor spaces, with 81% considering a backyard important or very important. The survey also indicates a strong preference for single-family homes (61%) over condos or apartments (24%). Key interior features valued by respondents include renovated kitchens and bathrooms, with 59% of single-family home seekers and 68% of condo/apartment seekers highlighting their importance. The survey underscores a growing emphasis on functional and flexible living spaces, reflecting modern lifestyle demands. Features such as dedicated home offices and adaptable room layouts are increasingly sought after, accommodating the rise of remote work and changing family needs. Energy efficiency and smart home technology also rank high on buyers' wish lists, with many seeking homes equipped with smart thermostats, energy-efficient appliances, and sustainable building materials to reduce environmental impact and utility costs.

Affordability concerns continue to influence homebuying decisions, with 40% of respondents citing rising home prices or rental costs as a significant factor. This financial strain has led some Canadians, particularly in expensive provinces like British Columbia (27%) and Ontario (20%), to prioritize features such as separate entrances for potential rental income.
